Where the spirit of the Oregon Trail meets the future.
On the Oregon Trail
The Town of Guernsey is home to historic sites, recreational venues and scenic views. Our history is written on Register Cliff and cut into the ruts on the Oregon Trail. You can explore both in Guernsey. Old Fort Laramie is just a few miles away. Steep yourself in the past, think about your ancestors as they came through on their way West.
Western History is our first name
Filled with the wonders of history, Guernsey is full of historical sites such as Register Cliff and the Oregon Trail Ruts. Guernsey State Park, just a mile away, is home to some of the best Civilian Conservation Corp. work in the country as well as great activities lke boating, swimming, biking and hiking.

Like to walk, jog or bike? The North Platte River walk, about 2 1/2 miles around the periphery of Guernsey is very peaceful and solitary.

Campsites are available at the Municipal Campground and RV Park at Trail Ruts Golf Course, it has showers and hook-ups. There are also campsites located at Guernsey State Park.

Fishing is a must! Just 12 miles southeast of Guernsey, you'll come upon a resevoir called Grayrocks. It's the hottest bass/walleye, catfish and musky fishing spot in the State! Wendover Canyon offers excellent brown and rainbow trout, catfish and walleye as well.
Hartville is waiting for you to explore
Hartville, located 6 miles north of Guernsey, is Wyoming's oldest Incorporated town dating back to 1884. Hartville was first settled in the 1870's by prospectors mining for gold, copper, onyx and iron. Some of the old stone buildings still stand today, as well as a couple of businesses, which includes the oldest active bar in the State of Wyoming.
Old Fort Laramie
Old Fort Laramie, just 13 miles east of Guernsey, is the last place people could stock up on their way to Oregon. It still has most of its buildings and has great living history in the summer months. It is well worth a stop to walk the grounds that so many did on their way west.
